This semester we have chosen The Revolutionary Genius of Plants by Stefano Mancuso as our book club read! Despite not having a central nervous system, do plants have consciousness? Plant neurobiologist, Stefano Mancuso, dives into this question and changes your definition of consciousness while introducing you to the truly revolutionary genius of plants.

Club activities will change each week. Come join us to digitize Eckerd’s Herbarium, work in the Ethnobotanical Tea Garden, discuss our book club choice of the semester, take part in field trips or go on plant walks!
SEB/SoB Joint Conference
Students Cameron Dasher, Ansley Jacobs, and Hannah Pierce were selected as one of two ‘Flash Poster Presentations’ at the SEB/SoE Joint Conference in Atlanta this past June.
We presented a number of our club’s projects, including their current and future scopes. Check out our poster below!

Club Meeting
Come join us at 5:15pm at the EC Farm for our first club meeting of semester! We are going to discuss semester projects, upcoming events, field trips, and fundraisers! Everyone will get to see the finished Ethnobotany Tea Garden and drinking some amazing tea! (don’t forget to bring your own mug :) Hope to see you all there!

Book Club Meeting
It is our last book club meeting of the semester! Hopefully everyone has loved the book so far and the last section is up next! Read “Burning Sweetgrass” and meet at the EC Farm at 5:30pm.

Garden Work Day
It is the 1st Thursday of the month which means it is a Garden Work Day! Meet out at EC Farm at 4:30pm. We will mostly be mulching the area to get ready to begin planting. Hope to see you all out there!

2nd Thursday of the month means garden work day! We will be propagating lemon grass and finishing up with the composting. Meet at the Farm at 5:30pm!

Book Club Gathering
It is our second book club gathering of the semester yay! This meeting will be on the next two section of Braiding Sweetgrass - Picking Sweetgrass and Braiding Sweetgrass. This will be a super fun and casual discussion so just bring your book and thoughts!

Plant Walk
We are going to be walking around campus updating a plant trail that was made by several professors and students in 2010. Meet outside of the James Center at 8am!

Digitizing Herbarium
It’s the second Thursday of the month and you know what that means….digitizing the herbarium! Come join us in James, Lab 64, at 5:30pm to continue your work digitizing the herbarium. Beginners and experts welcome!

Garden Work Day
This is our first OFFICIAL garden work day! We will be breaking ground on the new tea garden working with a couple different clubs on campus. This is a completely collaborative garden, we want what you want! Let us know your ideas and favorite teas and we will work together to make it happen. Meet at the EC Farm at 5:30pm.

Plant Walk
This Saturday morning we will be taking our lovely plant walk to Boyd Hill! Admission fee will be $3 and we are going to be meeting at 8am sharp at Cobb loop. Our goal is to end at 10:30am, but as many of you know it might be an hour early or late :)

Book Club Gathering
This is the first book club meeting of the semester!! We will be discussing the first two sections of Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer - Planting Sweetgrass & Tending Sweetgrass. This is a very informal and fun gathering where you can share your thoughts freely and drink some delicious tea.

Plant Walk
This Saturday morning we are going to be collecting plants from the Eckerd campus and making our own herbarium specimens! Thanks to the Medicinal Anthropology class and Dr. Fly, we now have a database of medicinal plants found in our own backyard. The first hour of the walk will be dedicated to collecting and the second hour is going to be dedicated to teaching you all how to do your own plant presses.

Monthly Meeting
This monthly meeting will include the announcements of newly elected members of the clubs committee - internship coordinator, secretary, and social media assistant manager! We will be updating you on upcoming events and the progress made on our projects. In addition, we will also be diving further into what ethnobotany is (the sub-sections). Of course there will also be tea! :) See you all there!

Herbarium
With specimens going back as far as the 1960s, we have hundreds of plants to confirm and digitize. All of our data will be uploaded into a database through the EC Library as an accessible resource.

Join us on a walk through the Palm Hammock, our on campus hammock. Together, we will identify Seminole ethnobotanically-significant plants and discuss their interesting and complex cultural and biological history. [Fox Patio]
